Energy Micro wins Product of the Year 2010 award

Oslo, Norway, March 12th, 2010 – Energy Micro® has received the prestigious Product of the Year 2010 Award from Germany’s leading bi-weekly technical journal, Elektronik. Voted for by the readers of the magazine, Energy Micro’s EFM®32 Gecko microcontroller was the winner in the active devices award category.

Receiving the award at a gala reception in Munich, Energy Micro’s VP of Sales, John Fjellheim said, "To know that engineers here in Germany considered our product to be the best active device announced last year, and that they took the time to vote for it, makes this award particularly rewarding. It is truly an honour to receive this famous prize."

Readers of Elektronik magazine annually vote on a list of 111 of the most innovative and interesting products announced during the previous year, pre-selected by a jury of Elektronik Editors and arranged in 10 different technology categories. Elektronik’s Product of the Year Awards are now in their 12th year.

Norwegian start-up Energy Micro launched its first product, the ARM® Cortex™-M3 based EFM32 Gecko microcontroller family in October 2009. Consuming less than a quarter of the energy needed by alternative 8-, 16- or 32-bit microcontrollers the product is regarded as the world’s most energy friendly microcontroller.

The Product of the Year Award follows hot on the heels of the Embedded Award for Hardware that Energy Micro received at the recent Embedded World 2010 Exhibition & Conference in Nuremberg. At the event Energy Micro also unveiled a new family of entry-level devices, the EFM32 ‘Tiny Gecko’ microcontrollers.
