Energy Micro's 2009 highlights

Energy Micro’s 2009 highlights

2009 has been a great year for Energy Micro. We are very proud of the fact that we have brought to market the world’s most energy friendly microcontrollers! The first twenty-two EFM32 MCU’s were launched in October. The EFM32 family of 32-bit microcontrollers is delivering 4 x increased battery life compared to any of today’s 8-, 16-, and 32-bit ultra low power solutions.

Energy efficient features

When creating a low energy microcontroller capable of running for more than a decade on just a small coin cell battery, there are several factors that are crucial. This includes ultra low power consumption, ultra fast response time, low latency, and autonomous peripherals operating without CPU intervention. See the complete list of EFM32G features here.

Customers and applications areas

The first EFM32 customers received their valued samples in 2009. International companies such as Velux and Kamstrup are perfect examples of customers requiring ultra efficient and low energy microcontrollers. The EFM32 microcontrollers are very well suited for applications such as metering, home & building automation, alarm & security and medical. With a rich feature set and ultra low energy consumption, the EFM32 Gecko Microcontrollers are optimized for all battery operated and low power applications.

Feedback and press

Following the release of the EFM32 Gecko Microcontroller family in October, we received a lot of positive publicity. Customers, partners, competitors, analysts, and press were impressed by the performance of the new player in the low energy microcontroller market. The EFM32G MCU’s appear in the press’ top rankings in both the US and the EU. Read more about Energy Micro in the media here.

Worldwide presence

In 2009 we established a worldwide Sales team. We have signed up distributors and representatives throughout Americas, EMEA and the Asia-Pacific regions. World-wide catalog distribution via Digi-Key further supports the availability and you may find your nearest sales contact on these pages.

Hardware and Software

The new EFM32 Gecko Development Kit is supporting the EFM32 microcontrollers. Features include the unique Advanced Energy Monitoring (AEM) system for run-time energy profiling, and a modular design which makes prototyping a breeze. Well known compilers also support the EFM32G family, alongside RTOS providers. The kit is bundled with everything you require to get up and running fast. You can find out more about the development kit here and get a quick introduction to the features and the AEM system.

The EFM32 Team

During 2009 the Energy Micro team grew to more than 30 employees. In addition, we are pleased to have two new board members onboard. The Energy Micro team now has experience from major semiconductor companies such as Texas Instrument, Freescale, Silicon Laboratories, Chipcon, Atmel, Nordic Semiconductors and National Semiconductors.

Tradeshows

Please visit Energy Micro at stand 12-350 in Nuremberg, Germany during the Embedded World March 2-4 2010. We also plan to exhibit at other shows, such as Electronica 2010. Please visit the event pages for further details.
